Take Action to help animals
Volunteer help with animals, Volunteer Conservation

Animals need help as never before.  It's easy to feel overwhelmed by all there is to be done. So you need to be realistic about what you can change and achieve for animals, identify what you're willing to do in your own life & change, and then take action to do it.

There are lots of us who care and want to help animals - especially those animals endangered - and so questions spring to mind:

  • What can I do?
  • Where do I start?
  • Can I really make a difference?
  • What can I do to turn the fortunes of animals around?
  • Which animal to help?
  • What about me and my wants and needs?
  • What's in the changes I make for me?
One small action by us means a great deal to them

News!
We're so happy to welcome German Shepherd Doyle to our home. Doyle is a rescue dog, and there are hundreds of thousands of dogs world wide needing homes from rescue centres, so please, if you can give a dog a home, consider taking on a rescue.  Alternatively, please think about short or long term fostering i.e giving an animal a home on a temporary basis.

Teach your children well...
So the song goes, & here are some new resources for teachers
Take action to help animals right into the heart of the classroom!  Bear Necessities even has an Assembly Plan. Children in India recently took action to help a donkey foal in distress, proving that Educating children about animal welfare works
elephantImagine...80 pounds of elephant poo a day
How would you like to help pick up elephant poop in Kenya on an elephant sanctuary (there are other things to do as well) or massage and care for elephants who've been carrying tourists all day in India?  i-to-i have two great new projects for willing volunteers!  Make your holiday count - conservation projects with i-to-i.

Or why not volunteer for the Elephant Mahout Project in Thailand?  Work with an elephant over the time you're there, learning how to command your elephant, walk with him or her through the forest, and helping to shower and feed her.  There's more to it than that, but find out about Responsible Travel's opportunity here and what other travellers thought of it here.  From a minimum of one week in duration.

Help horses & donkeys on holiday
The Brooke has launched a Happy Holiday Horses Code to help you help horses and donkeys overseas. There are 10 simple points to follow to help their wellbeing right on the spot.
And you can show your support for the Brooke's efforts right here. Last year, they helped some 650,000 horses, donkeys & mules worldwide & gave owners a lot of training & education.

Chico (pictured left) says.. "Get involved in banning the practice of skinning cats & dogs for their fur in China and more with Animal Saviours.  I wanted to tell you about this because my fellow cats & dogs out there need all our help to spread the word, get involved and stop this practice. Read more about it here"

The East Sussex Wildlife Rescue & Ambulance Service
It needs funds - can you donate £2 a month or print off this poster and put it up where the public might see it?

Volunteer on holiday
Why not give some of your holiday up to help animal charities in the places you visit?  We enjoyed a morning at an animal charity in Malaga, Spain, and made lots of new friends, 4 paws & two!

Every action counts
Any action you take to help animals is a step in the right direction, however small it may appear to you. And one small step can quickly lead to another.

                       Better to be here
than taking no action at all

No Action      One action        Doing 3 or 4 things a year     Doing a Lot

Share the load
Get friends, neighbours, family and work colleagues involved. If you get just 1 person to help, you've doubled the number of people helping animals. It doesn't take much - just a mention over a coffee, an email, a note in a Christmas card, an invitation to join you at an event for a fun day out  Spread the word about this site and about what you're doing.

Our Wonderful World
Just take a look at what we're all doing to Earth  - they all impact on the animal kingdom. But there's lots of good stuff happening too and tons of ways to get involved e.g. Build a pond in your garden to help turn the loss of ponds over the last 50 years around.  Help the humble British bumblebee

RSPB event a great success at all levels
Find out how the Big School Birdwatch made a big impact in January 2009.  Educating the young pays off.  The Big Garden Birdwatch over a weekend was a great success too - over half a million people joined in!  More...

"Be the change you want to see in the world" said Mahatma Gandhi
Help change the lives of 60 BILLION animals worldwide for the better.  Compassion in World Farming has achieved good results over the last 40 years but it needs your support to continue its work - there is still a lot to do.  Register your support for farm animals. (UK only)

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world.  Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.
