Chico was a stray in Spain, in search of a loving kind home. In fact, he was terrified of people for quite a while, as he was badly treated, but he landed on his paws, having escaped and gone in search of new owners.
One morning, he trotted up a roadway, hot and thirsty, towards a house. He was greeted there by a motherly yellow labrador and her friend, a mongrel. They welcomed him and kept an eye on him while Chico built his confidence over the next few weeks. He only really broke through to the human race when children - not much bigger than he - treated him kindly and gave him treats.
Gradually, Chico became part of the home he'd arrived at. Now he is very much a confident dog, happy because he knows he's got a kind, loving home where he is cared for and loved. In fact, everyone who comes to stay loves Chico. They adore his "do it" attitude, his "get on with it" approach to life and his positive attitude. He is inquisitive, cheerful and keen to make friends, particularly - and not sensibly - with guard dogs down the road, who've seen him off several times.
Chico shows just how much animals can give people - he's entertained lots of people who've come to visit, and believe us, there are more than a few; and been patient with their kids who've played wiith him for hours. And in return, he's been given a kind, loving home. He knows that, if you know what you want, you can get it, which is why we've asked him to be our Ambassador and help with our message. So you'll see him on many of our leaflets and banners, CDs and more.
After all, if Chico didn't have his "do it" attitude, and his owners didn't have their "do it" approach which combines action with compassion and love, he wouldn't have a home.
All in all, he's a pretty inspiring sort of a dog. We all need to take on board his "do it" attidude and "let's get it done" approach.
We'd better stop now, because he's telling us to get on with some work.
